The Alligator Snapper (Macrochelys temminckii) is quite an animal. This one was ~ 10" wide by 18" long, by 8" tall when walking on tip-toe. He was hoping to digest a duckling in peace, sunning in the middle of the road leading to Frisco's air strip. With encouragement, he moved to less dangerous ground.
Not quite the picture of ferocity one expects, this snapping turtle was rather docile.
Series Description: Concerning all points along North Carolina's Cape Hatteras National Seashore, from Oregon Inlet, through Buxton, NC, to Ocracoke Village.
