I rented a house in Rosemead from a Chinese man. I was not allowed to remove any carpets, but I was allowed to plant a garden and do some landscaping. Here, a mass of old bricks became a useful new patio. A note of caution: the cement mortar clinging to old bricks can be an asbestos hazard. Before you go about recycling old chimneys and walls, be absolutely sure the mortar doesn't contain asbestos.
