In my experience, the Coast Starlight basically has no schedule. The first time I took it to Seattle, it arrived twelve (12) hours late. Fellow passengers were fuming with rage. Many called ahead and had relatives pick them up in Portland. Apparently, freight trains have the right of way on this route, and can dictate any delay, no matter how extreme. That's not to say I don't like this train. On the contrary, I've taken it again many times. Only the Zephyr might be more scenic. There are many abandoned bridges along this train's route. They're often far more elegant than their new replacements, though they're always far narrower.
