Calm summer evenings are a great time to stalk flounder on the flats of the sound.
On one occasion, I spotted a 50lb Atlantic Torpedo. The potentially lethal high-voltage fish circled me slowly, as curious about me as I was about it. Then he swam off.
Sport fishing in the Hatteras area is full of potential. Giant Bluefin Tuna, Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Cobia, False Albacore... a wide variety of quarry. The great thing about sport fishing on the outer banks, though, is it's quite good right off the beaches too. In Pamlico Sound, you might even have the good fortune to hook a Tarpon.
