Bloom of Vanilla, the sole edible scion

So puzzling, that a plant family with ~30,000 species gives us just one palatable variety: the Vanilla Bean. There must be more out there. A culinary expedition is called for.

Green petals, red lip

Recipies calling for Vanilla would be deeply scathed by its absence. Imagine Chocolate without the flavour of vanilla beans... Picture whip cream without vanilla... Or how about plain ice cream without the help of vanilla extract from Madagascar, Dominica or Fiji? It is one of those indispensible commodities whose absense would aggrieve society to the utmost.

Series Description: Monocotyledons of the first order, their 30,000 species-strong presence is a coup in the plant world. See also the Cymbidium and more general Flowers series.
