Adolescent's Summer Reading

Imagine how much more successful summer reading programs would be if choices weren't drastically limited. Rather than give the class a short list of a dozen possibilities, the teacher could simply say at year's end: "Kids, your homework tonight is to choose 10 books you'd like to read over the summer. I will review your choices and select three that make the most sense." From that point on, the scientifically-inclined will read mostly scientific literature, the mathematically-inclined: math; the humanities type: humanities. Reading material K-12 is too biased towards humanities.
